Studies on silver has shown that the precious metal contains ions which have antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal and antibacterial benefits. These are powerful agents that efficiently work to create an environment to promote healing.
Silverette® have been designed as an anatomical shape of the nipple and the skin in this area in contact with the silver has helped provide relief and repair of the nipple skin at any stage of the breastfeeding journey.
If you have any concerns or if pain persists, please seek help from a medical practitioner or lactation consultant.
Sore nipples are very common during breastfeeding and can often be a result of an incorrect latch position between baby and mother. When this happens what had started out as minor skin wear and tear of nipple skin can turn into cracked nipples.
Mothers would turn to cream however they are known to mask and not effective to soothe and heal in between the next feeding session. As mothers address the cause of the issue through professional support, Silverette nursing cups is there to provide the prevention, soothing and healing of the nipple(s).
The cups have been designed to harness silver’s benefits by mothers wearing the them in between the feeds.
Silverette® come in two sizes - regular and XL. Before the XL was available, the regular was all that was available and they were a "one-size-fits-most".
The XL size has been on the market since 2020 and the feedback from mum's around the world is that the XL size is now the size-that-fits-most.
Regardless of size, they will work as intended. The only difference is the comfort factor. It is only the diameter of the cup that varies. The height is the same (the space between the nipple and the cup).
If you are looking at the sizing chart and are right on the cusp, go XL. Keep in mind that your breasts will grow throughout pregnancy and even more so when your milk comes in, so go for the size you think you will be post-birth/when you start breastfeeding. This is the period when you'll be wearing the cups the most.
If you are buying them as a gift and are not sure what size to get, go XL. Our recommendation is that XL will cater for all breast and areola sizes.🌻
Always contact us at anytime. Our team can walk you through the sizes and recommend the cups that best fit 💖
The cups are worn under your nursing bra or even if you plan on using absorbent breast pads, just place the breast pad over Silverette cups and your bra will hold everything in place.
1. Express a couple of drops of milk in each cup and place the cup directly over the nipple, securing the cup with the nursing bra.
2. Prior to breastfeeding, remove the cups and clean the nipples with warm water or a water wipe. Once feeding is completed, rinse the cups with warm water, pat dry and repeat step 1 of the process in-between feeds.

We recommend consulting your medical practitioner or lactation consultant in preparation of your lactation journey. We also advise to seek for their advice if you have any concerns regarding the health of your breasts. Silverette® is a product designed to support a mother’s lactation journey by creating an environment that promotes the healing of sore, cracked and painful nipples.
THE “COMMON ISSUES”
Nipple Wear and Tear: For relief from painful, sore, sensitive, dry, and cracked nipples resulting from breastfeeding or expressing, Silverette® works best on its own. The cups should not be used simultaneously with over-the-counter creams, oils or lotions to treat these wounds as it will create a barrier between the skin and the 925 silver, reducing its effectiveness.
Nipple Thrush: Silverette’s® 925 silver is a natural antifungal agent and can be used simultaneously with prescribed treatment that supports the recovery of nipple thrush. If you have any concerns regarding nipple thrush, please consult your medical practitioner.
Mastitis: Silverette’s® 925 silver has natural anti-inflammatory and antibiotic agent and can be used simultaneously with treatments that supports the recovery of mastitis. If you have any concerns regarding mastitis, please consult your medical practitioner.
Milk Blebs: Silverette’s® 925 silver has natural anti-inflammatory and can be used to create the environment to promote healing of milk blebs. If you have any concerns regarding milk blebs, please consult your medical practitioner.
We recommended that Silverette® should be used during the lactation period for preventative measures. It is designed to be used in between nursing sessions, and is recommended to be worn continuously until breastfeeding is established without any pain or damage.
It can be used pre and postnatal as a preventative measure for sensitive nipples, as well as for nipples that have been damaged from expressing milk.
Before being handcrafted in Northern Italy, the silver is acquired through metals agents authorised and controlled by the Italian government. Every batch of silver purchased for manufacturing comes with certification.
925 is the purest solid silver that can be moulded into a shape. There is a more pure level of silver (999-1000) but it is too soft and would be considered as silver plated and not solid silver.
925 silver is an alloy of 92.5% silver and 7.5% Copper. Pure silver is malleable, so copper is added to ensure the cups can be molded into the anatomical shape. Silverette® is safe for mum and baby and is nickel free.
Natural oxidisation may occur over time when using the Silverette® cups. This is when the silver develops a brass yellow colour. Rest assure this is normal and it is important for users to know the cups are still effective and most importantly safe to use for mum and baby.
So why does this occur? This is due to the natural oxidisation process that occurs in alloy used in Silverette® (this being copper) that reacts to the oxygen, sulfur and moisture in the air. When copper oxidizes in the air, a build up occurs on the outer layer of the sterling silver piece. Though tarnishing can be seen as a bad thing, it is a sign that the silver item is genuine sterling silver.
To remove the tarnish, make a paste using a mix of bicarbonate of soda (one teaspoon) with a few drops of water. Rub the paste over the cups, rinse and pat dry. For more detail on cleaning, please visit Clean & Care.
